CATHY'S CORNER: Feeling Green and Grinchy

December 12, 2014

"Maybe Christmas.." he thought, "doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more." Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas

After the sugar high and the last bit of turkey and pumpkin pie is digested comes the rush: the Black Friday craze, holiday parties, shopping, Christmas music all over the radio. These last two weeks I celebrated both boys' birthdays. Everybody's coughing, feeling tired. I'm running around (again) like a squirrel on speed, getting nothing done and stressing over gifts, food, vacation plans, my tight pants. A UPS truck honked at me for no reason as I sat going nowhere on the Post Road. I’ve also just eaten a box of candy cane oreos and am not feeling so good.

Humbug! So now I've become kinda green and Grinchy, to put it nicely.

But with all my running around, I'm here to help make the holidays easier for you (I hope). I will be sharing toys, crafts, books, recipes and giveaways in the weeks ahead. But still, the holidays are exhausting, fattening and expensive. Then I keep asking myself "What's the rush?" I don't have all the answers, but I'm trying to keep things in perspective and be grateful and kind. I also realize how easy it is to get caught up in the holidays and forget their true meaning.

So if you do find extra time, please email me feedback or submit your comments below. I'd love to hear how you're spending the holidays. Enjoy your week ahead.

Cathy
