Cathy’s Corner: Born Ready

Here’s to just showing up

“The greatest glory in living lies not in ever falling, but in rising every time we fall.”  Nelson Mandela

Life seems easy when everything goes as planned. But it’s when you screw up or when things don’t go as expected that you find your true character. While I realize there are far greater challenges than mine in this world, in his own small way, my son’s perseverance showed his true character. Born ready, as I like to call it.

After running around with birthday parties, soccer games ...

Create Happiness and Reach Your Goals

At a recent “Women Talk Business” event at the Westport Library before Mother’s Day, I shared my story of starting my Macaroni Kid and encouraged attendees to “take stock of your dreams.”

“Successful people take time to plan for success. They also write down their goals,” said Soviero, who is also a mother ...

Fruit Water

Macaroni Menu

This recipe is so incredibly easy, you may already make it, or you'll think as I did, "why haven't I done this before?" This recipe is a staple in my friend Maria's Mexican household. She has explained to me that it is made often, as well as in many Mexican eateries and roadside stands. After showing interest, (as I do with all the great food and drinks she introduces me to), she surprised me with a basketful of fresh fruit drinks to try! I was thrilled, and ...

Sometimes our children need to try out and use strategies on their own time

Over the last year, we have seen dramatic changes in my son.  Physically, he is much taller and is often in danger of wearing "high water" pants due to his sudden growth spurts.  He is well over my shoulder in height and appears to be quickly transforming into a "Man Child."  These outward changes are noticeable, but the more important changes are not as obvious...until you stop and listen.

One of the characteristics that I am happy to see, is my son's ability to be self-reflective.  He is ...
