COOL TECH TOY REVIEW: TIGGLY COUNTS

iPad Compatible Counting Toy Combines Digital with Physical Play

November 21, 2014

I was given the opportunity to review and share Tiggly Counts, a new early learning toy for children age 3 and up that truly merges physical and digital play. Created by two Harvard graduates and a Columbia University trained educator, Tiggly Counts is the first iPad compatible physical math toy of its kind. It has already won 10 awards including the 2014 Tillywig Brain Child Award.

Inspired by the classic cuisenaire rods used in Montessori classrooms, Tiggly Counts aims to transform at-home math education for pre-schoolers and young children. The new product features five lightweight colorful counting toys children can hold to physically interact with Tiggly learning apps. When used together during playtime, Tiggly’s counting toys and apps help children develop problem solving, number sense, counting skills, and a basic understanding of math symbols and concepts.

My neighbor’s kids 6 year old Samuel and 20 month old Olive played with the toy.  Overall it is very cute and would make a nice holiday gift. Samuel liked the Tiggly chef app best because of the math. Olive liked the imaginative Cardtoons, which would be perfect to capture the attention of a slightly older child. They also played well together and interacted with each other during the game.

Tiggly Counts comes with a felt carrying pouch for easy storage and transportation. The product retails for $29.95 and is available on tiggly.com, Apple store locations, and at Graham’s Toys in Greenwich.
