CATHY'S CORNER: Trick Or Treat?

October 31, 2014

Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new. - Albert Einstein

This week has seen a multitude of mistakes in our house starting with the mummy disaster. Preston’s homemade mummy costume unravelled before his big Monster Mash party last weekend and he was apoplectic. Then, I’m still not sure how our beloved pumpkin imploded but I think we “over-carved” it. (Meanwhile, squirrels seem to be enjoying the smaller pumpkins.) I bought $45 worth of the “wrong” type of Halloween candy, according my kids: too many Dum-Dums and Tootsie Rolls, and not enough Snickers. Preston jumped into a pile of leaves that might have included some poison ivy. Then there was the math test fiasco. I tried to roast pumpkin seeds in the oven and nearly set the house on fire. Oh, and as I was rushing around I ran over something in the driveway (think it was my glasses). While all of these mistakes are relatively minor and fixable, my point is that making mistakes is part of life and, of course, part of learning.

Stay safe and have a great Halloween weekend. Remember that Daylight savings ends Sunday Nov 2 at 2 am so set those clocks back an hour.
