Cathy's Corner: A Fresh Start

September 30, 2016

“Don’t be afraid to be confused. Try to remain permanently confused. Anything is possible. Stay open, forever…”  George Saunders, The Braindead Megaphone

Where is the time going? Sunday marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year, known as Rosh Hashanah. For many Jewish people around the world this means eating a lot of tasty food, spending time with family, helping others, showing gratitude, and resolving any past wrongs. I use this time to reflect and make a list of the things I want to improve. Going to bed earlier is still at the top of my list.

One of the things I'm thinking about is how one small act can really make a difference. Since September is also Pediatric Cancer awareness month, I wanted to highlight the Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF), a national nonprofit who is asking people of all ages across the country to serve up some sweets for a good cause with their Give Hope Bake sale effort. To run a bake sale, make a donation or find out how to get involved, visit www.pcfweb.org or call 914-777-3127.

So dip an apple into honey and savor the sweetness of life, and keep sharing your stories, and sending your photos and ideas to me at catherines@macaronikid.com.

Westport Make A Difference Day

Make a Difference Day is a national day of volunteering. We are proud that our Town has  joined millions of others around the country every fourth Saturday in October to help make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.

Volunteers can search for projects on our website (www.westport-makeadifday.org) and sign up. If you want to develop your own project, submit the form. As projects come in, they are posted, so please keep checking the website.

If you only have a limited amount of time to spare- join us in Branson Hall at Christ and Holy Trinity Church at 9:30 am, Saturday, October 22 to help with our drop-in projects (preparing toiletry bags for the homeless, comfort bags for battered and abused women, and arts and crafts kits for children in need and Hug a Senior Bags.)

Any questions, email at makadif@aol.com.
