CATHY'S CORNER: Where's Your Village?

August 18, 2016
It takes a whole village to raise a child.
Nigerian proverb

Those of us who rely on carpools, nannies, house cleaners, tutors, sitters, neighbors, spouses, teachers, coaches, grandparents and friends to guide, help, care for and transport our children - fully understand the meaning of this proverb.

But these days, the village isn't always what it is supposed to be. Sometimes it feels like no one says hello to each other in person anymore. However, life is easier when you’re part of a network of friends and family, and a neighborhood. The truth is, no man, woman, or family does it alone.

It really does take an army to raise a child and weather the storms of life. As a new school year starts - with all its activities, travel sports, and increased time demands - I’m grateful for my tiny village and know how difficult it is to maintain. So remember to reach out if you ever need help.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and happy week ahead. Enjoy these last summer days. This issue is packed with goodies, so I hope you enjoy and read on. Cathy
