Many bright students struggle in conventional classroom settings, especially when language-based learning differences and ADHD make reading, writing and learning more challenging. For families in Fairfield and Westchester counties, and their surrounding communities seeking a different educational environment, The Southport School offers evidence-based learning for students in grades 2–8.
For more than 40 years, The Southport School has provided transformative learning to students. Grounded in neuroscience, its evidence-based teaching approach evolves in real-time with the latest research. The school addresses the whole child, nurturing academic growth alongside physical and social-emotional well-being in a community of peers where students are understood, challenged, feel safe, and are inspired to take chances.
The Southport School is distinguished by exceptional, individualized instruction, small class sizes, and a 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio. Students learn in classrooms alongside peers with similar strengths and weaknesses, creating a strong sense of belonging and understanding. Literacy and study strategies are seamlessly integrated into every subject, from math to art, with no pull-outs or modified programs.
This work is strengthened by access to research through The Southport CoLAB. Embedded within the school, The Southport CoLAB collaborates with leading neuroscientists, cognitive scientists, and respected education experts to bring the latest research on learning, literacy, and Executive Function directly into our classroom, often well before they are widely adopted elsewhere. Families are invited to learn more about The Southport School during the upcoming Admissions Open House on May 13th at 10AM.
