  • The 2024 Sales Tax Free Week is Sunday, August 18, through Saturday, August 24, 2024.
  • Sales or purchases of certain items of clothing or footwear costing less than $100 per item are exempt from sales tax.
  • This special exemption applies to purchases made from retailers located in Connecticut as well as from on-line retailers.
  • This year will be Connecticut's 25th Sales Tax Free Week.


What types of clothing and footwear are eligible to be purchased exempt from tax during Sales Tax Free Week?

The exemption available during the “Sales Tax Free Week” includes most articles of clothing and footwear intended to be worn on or about the body. For examples of clothing and footwear that are exempt, visit Examples of Clothing or Footwear That Are Exempt When Sold for Less Than $100 During Sales Tax Free Week. Some items do not qualify for the deal, such as certain specialized shoes for sports or dance, safety apparel items, party costumes and more. Qualifying online purchases are also exempt from sales tax as long as its is made during the week.

Governor Susan Bysiewicz said. “Parents and caregivers can save on needed clothing and everyday footwear items to help their kids kick off the school year with confidence. I hope our residents will take advantage of these savings and shop at their local small businesses, allowing those dollars to be reinvested in their communities.”
