CATHY'S CORNER: Teaching Resilience

April 24, 2015

It's impossible to protect your kids against disappointment in life.”

Nicholas Sparks, Message in a Bottle

Sometimes during my son’s soccer games, I wish I could be on the field taking the hits while he scores the goals. But I know that isn’t the case, either on the field or in life.

I realize there are bound to be losses and failures, but without struggle there can be no growth. It is in those moments of disappointment and frustration where we find the truth about ourselves and what matters most.

Whether my son is falling off his bike, or struggling in school or on the field, I’m here to wipe away his tears and make sure he gets back up and keeps trying again, and again, and again. So that when he’s an adult, he can continue to get up on his own. I know the road won’t be easy, so here’s to falling down once in a while and learning perseverance.

Enjoy some fun activities outside this weekend and have a great week ahead. Please let me know your thoughts. Cathy
