CATHY'S CORNER: Crazy, Scary Mom

October 24, 2014

“In our country we call this type of mother love teng ai. My son has told me that in men's writing it is composed of two characters. The first means pain; the second means love. That is a mother's love.”  ― Lisa See, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

The more I realize how little I actually know about parenting, the more worried I become. The more worried I become, the more I try to control things. The more things I try to control, the more overwhelmed I get. When I get overwhelmed, I yell. When I yell, no one listens. When no one listens, I become scary

Welcome, Crazy Scary Mom. More terrifying than a zombie, more annoying than a mosquito on a hot day. More psycho than Psycho. Eventually I will exhaust myself and understand that my kids are going to be who they are - no matter how much I try to control them.

Have a safe, happy and worry-free week ahead and enjoy all the fun Halloween activities near you. This issue is pack with stuff, so relax and read on. I always welcome your thoughts and ideas.

Interesting family-friendly documentary: The film, I AM ELEVEN, will be shown on Weds Nov 12 @ 7pm at the Bow-Tie Royale Cinema in Westport. The film explores the lives of eleven year olds across the world, who share their thoughts on everything from love, war, global warming, music, culture, family, happiness, and the future. Australian filmmaker Genevieve Bailey travelled the world for six years to compose this insightful, funny and moving documentary portrait of childhood. From an orphanage in India, to a single-parent household in inner-city Melbourne, to bathing with elephants in Thailand, I AM ELEVEN explores the lives and thoughts of children from 15 countries. These young minds provide us with a powerful insight into the future of our world. Watch the trailer hereReserve Your Ticket as soon as possible and spread the word!
