CATHY'S CORNER: The Great Adventure

August 21, 2014

“What day is it?"
It's today," squeaked Piglet.
My favorite day," said Pooh.”  - A.A. Milne

As usual, our family vacation wouldn't be complete without a trip to some random medical clinic or emergency room. This time, my older son had sprained his wrist at a local park so we spent some quality time hanging out at Cedar Sinai Urgent Care in Los Angeles on a sparkling sunny Sunday morning instead of going to the beach. Previous ER or medical clinic visits involved mysterious itching, hives and facial swelling, a fractured ankle, a broken big toe (caused by kicking a soccer ball in Crocs), severe dehydration (long story), food poisoning (don't ask), a tick bite, and an excruciating sinus infection, among other noteworthy ailments. It always seems that at least one of us gets sick or hurt on vacation or holiday - just as we plan some adventure. I get upset when I think about all the lost opportunities: we could have gone to that new restaurant, theme park, hiking trail, concert or beach. But then I realize those moments in the doctor's office or hospital waiting room are all part of the adventure - every hilarious, emotional, disgusting, and crazy part of it. Thankfully everything turned out okay.

Enjoy every last delicious bite of summer and have a great week ahead. From budget planning to healthy lunches, I have more great Back to School (and Back to Work) ideas for you.
