I am writing this week from grandma and grandpa's in Los Angeles, where we have been spending our days playing ball in the park, taking walks with the dog, floating in the pool, and eating popsicles - just like I did when I was a kid. However, a lot has changed here since I was their age. There's a lot more movie stars and freeways, a huge upscale mall where "KiddieLand" used to be, and my favorite pizza and ice cream places are long gone. But I've also shown the kids many of the classic sites that remain - the Farmer's Market, Santa Monica Pier, La Brea Tar Pits, Disneyland, the Hollywood sign, as well as my former elementary and high school. It feels good to share my history. Because you can't know where you're going if you don't know where you've been.
