Cathy's Corner: Game On
Bless This Mess!
“Nothing is good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” – William Shakespeare
What is it about boys that makes them want to toss around balls everywhere? I've had all shapes and sizes of footballs thrown in every corner of our house, as well as golfballs wacked into windows, soccer balls kicked into bushes, and tennis balls, baseballs, and a puck pitched onto our gutters and roof. That doesn't even include the lost balls that have mysteriously landed in our neighbors' yards, under cars, in my face, across the street, and in the ceiling at the school gym (don't ask).
That said, the guys in my house are ready for some football. There will be a lot of yelling as usual, and eating of spicy chicken wings and other weird food. It's all good, but what a mess. And don't even get me started with the snow-slushy gunk that finds its way into everything including the drapery. So I will break down and clean it up, and the mess will start all over again. (Sort of like the movie Groundhog Day where Bill Murray re-lives the same day over and over again.) I guess that's the life with boys. As much as I try to control and prevent every stain, broken bone and gooey mess, I fight a losing battle daily. Boys might be the universe's sneaky way of reminding me to let go, live in the moment, appreciate what I have, and accept that life is not supposed to be perfect...Game on!
If you're NOT ready for some football, get some cuteness instead!
If the thought of watching the Super Bowl holds no appeal for you, turn the channel to Animal Planet on the big day. The Puppy Bowl features darling puppies from shelters across the U.S. “playing” football. With a kitty half-time show, the two hour special offers some serious cuteness for the non-football fan. The special loops from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. so even if you are watching the true game, you can still tune in to Puppy Bowl. Just be prepared for the kids to beg to adopt a pup for weeks afterward!
Please tell me what you're doing to stay sane this season (I'll be vacuuming repeatedly, thank you). Email me at [email protected] or leave a comment below.
