Cathy's Corner: Dreams, Hopes and Doing Right

January 12, 2017

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” Dr. Martin Luther King

As a parent, I’m always desperately trying to get my kids to “do the right thing” whether it means standing up for a friend or for what they believe in, being kind, telling the truth or helping others. It’s not an easy task to hold oneself accountable, when it seems easier to complain or blame others for our problems.

But when I face difficulty being a role model amid, I think about Dr. Martin Luther King, whose life exemplified putting words and dreams into action. He showed us that life must be lived with honesty, truth and integrity, that words mean something and that we must speak up in the face of injustice. Because doing the right thing is neither safe nor comfortable. Because the truth is always worth it.

Have a great week ahead. Cathy
