Cathy's Corner: Just Say No…and Sometimes Yes

December 2, 2016

“Sometimes "No" is the kindest word.”  Vironika Tugaleva

It’s birthday and soon holiday season at our house and the boys have a serious case of the gimmes. Gimme the newest Xbox game. Gimme those fancy sneakers. Gimme this. Gimme that.

And while their wishes and a random splurge may be valid, it’s also hard to say no amidst the endless commercials to buy stuff we don’t need.

I think it’s a good sign the kids to ask for what they want and express their desires, but it’s hard to strike a balance between giving in and knowing when enough is enough.

So in this season of excess, please join me in remembering it’s OK to say no, and we won’t fall apart because of it. And saying Yes is okay sometimes too, although I hope my kids understand some day that the best gift of all is time together.

I can only hope.

Have a safe and fun week ahead. Cathy
