Favorite Tips for Summer Photos

Capture your family's summer side.

By Pam Einarsen July 21, 2016

The summer is in play. Reservations are all made. Sunny, sandy days on the beach. Quiet reflection on the porch. Campfires. Kids exploring their world. Friends all together. These are the best of times that we create for ourselves and our families. The warm memories that comfort us all year long.

It's no wonder that summer portraits have a special charm.

It's okay to shoot into the Sun - You can create interesting silhouettes, especially at sunset.

Focusing on details can tell a whole story on their own.

Getting everyone in motion creates fun photos and more natural expressions.

Getting in close, both for your subjects and for you, can create a warmer and more intimate portrait.

Candid moments often show more feeling.

If you are like many people, much of your time from September to May is spent thinking about June, July, and August. Summer is just the best, and holds special memories of family and friends, boating, biking, reading and traveling. Even work is somehow more casual than in the winter. People actually do stop and smell the roses :-) Or at least stop and post them to Facebook!

And what I've found is that these precious months are also the very best time to do family portrait sessions. These are the times we relax and feel great; the times we want to share; the times we want to hold on to forever.

And summer is full of special events that bring extended families together - graduations, weddings, reunions, old friends visiting, holiday barbecues and festivities. All of which make summer such a rich and meaningful time for creating timeless family images.

And if you know me, you know my photo sessions are fun and memorable.

Just like summer!

This Summer I am planning sessions on Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod, and the Jersey Shore. You can book other destinations as well - I love summer travel! If you are planning an extended family reunion or special trip to a favorite vacation spot, it is the perfect time to create a priceless collection of memories. Call to discuss your dates.
