CATHY'S CORNER: Mom Fails and More

May 20, 2016

There but for the grace of God, go I. - Preacher John Bradford, 1665

I remember sitting on a flight long before I had kids of my own. Staring at a woman giving candy to her whining, cranky kids who were climbing on the seats, “I’ll never be like that mom,” I self-righteously thought.

Now as a parent 20 years later, I know never to judge how parents raise their kids, whether it's about using electronics or pacifiers, letting them have candy or soda, and enforcing supervision and discipline. Everyone’s situation is different, and sometimes even the best intentions don’t come out as planned. Plus, you never know what the future holds. It’s hard enough to follow other people’s advice, much less my own.

From being late or forgetting about a pick up or school event, I've had so many "mom fails" I can't even begin to count. But making mistakes makes us human and connects us all.

Have a safe and fun week ahead, whatever direction it may take. Be sure to check out my list of Springtime favorites and stay tuned for next week's Memorial Day events, parades and parties. Enjoy. Cathy
