CATHY'S CORNER: The Juggling Myth

October 9, 2015

“We hold ourselves back in ways big and small, by lacking self-confidence, by not raising our hands, and by pulling back when we should be leaning in.”  Sheryl Sandberg (COO Facebook), Lean In

As a full-time mom who works very part-time, I often wonder, “Can a woman have it all?” While balancing life, kids and work pursuits, I often kick myself for not living up to all the things I should be doing, need to get done, think I must do better, or want to do. On one hand, it’s important to remember to compromise, delegate tasks, have date nights, lean on friends and family, and stay organized. On the other hand, mundane things like kids with sniffles, a moody tween, housework, weather issues and school activities can throw everything out of order and make having it all far easier said then done.

So it’s Thursday night…I’m trying to publish this newsletter but the kids won't get to bed, homework needs to get done, the kitchen is a mess, and my car needed an oil change two weeks ago. Like anything else, I guess the idea of balance lies in letting a few (ok...many) things slide, asking for help, and focusing on what matters. So I’ll deal with the car, the bills, the mess and folding laundry tomorrow.

I am always inspired by moms who strike a balance in their lives like Sheryl Sandberg. To all of you out there trying to juggle kids, work and everything else, I welcome your thoughts and ideas and would love to hear your story. Let me know if you’d like to be profiled or know someone who might inspire others. Have a great week ahead. Cathy
