Macaroni Menu

By Lisa Cummings and www.livewellbydesign.net August 28, 2015

Have you and your kids been enjoying lots of ice cream this summer?

Are you wondering how to get back on a healthy track once school starts?

Not to worry, this back-to-school chocolate smoothie is the perfect way to transition back to healthier foods.

It tastes just like ice cream minus the extra sugar and is actually dairy-free, too.

Remember, there are no secrets to healthy eating.

A reasonable goal for fall could be to minimize the junk and get your diet to consist of real food (you know, the stuff that nature makes)

With that is mind, enjoy this delicious, quick and easy chocolate smoothie.

Easy to blend for breakfast or take it to go as you're walking out the door.

Back-to-School Chocolate Smoothie

(Makes one large or 2 small smoothies)

1 frozen banana

2 cups almond milk

2 tbsp. dark cocoa powder

a dash of cinnamon

a handful of ice

1 scoop protein powder (optional) I like the plant-based ones, like Sun Warrior or Vega-both sold at Whole Foods or any local health food store

1-2 romaine* leaves (optional)

stevia or agave to taste

*Romaine lettuce is 90% water therefore will not turn your smoothie green, plus, it's a great way to get more greens into your diet- to promote cleansing and overall better health.

Blend all ingredients in a blender or Vitamix until smooth.

Adjust any of the ingredients to your liking and serve.
