CATHY'S CORNER: On Friendships

July 30, 2015

“A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, and accepts what you have become.” – Shakespeare

As a kid, I couldn’t wait for my birthday where I would wear a pink sparkly party hat, open presents and eat cake. I no longer care as much about those things and just want to spend more time with friends. With my birthday this week, I started to think about friendship and how it changes.

Most of my friends have kids, and my best friend from college has a large family of sisters, nieces and nephews. Often rushed for time and living in different places, we usually share stories about our work and lives and try to get together whenever possible, but it’s hard. It’s nice when we finally sit down for lunch or coffee in person. Life gets complicated but I know how important friends are for keeping us sane and grounded. So in honor of the International Day of Friendship (July 30), here’s to all the friends in our lives, wherever they may be.

Have a great week ahead. Enjoy every last drop of summer before it's gone. Cathy
