REWARDS for Summer Reading and Good Grades

Good Grades and reading are their own reward, but it’s always nice to get a little something extra for the effort! Here are a few businesses around Fairfield County who offer some treats to help reinforce that all that hard work. Let me know if you hear of any others and I'll add to this list!


FOR TEENS

Through July 13

Enter the third annual Teen Photography Contest for CT residents in grades 6-12 (incoming grade). Post high resolution photos to the Tumblr account The sponsor, Bankwell bank, will award the winner a $500 savings account at the reception on July 22. Winners will be announced on Friday, July 15 and will be featured in a display on the Riverwalk level of the Library from July 17-August 31. 

 

 

Barnes & Noble has a Summer Reading Program 
Kids can earn free books. While you’re there, be sure to enroll in their Kid’s Club rewards program for discounts, rewards, and a free birthday cupcake.

 

 

Pizza Hut Book It Summer Reading Challenge 

Earn rewards and chat with Greg from Wimpy Kid! Kids can share their daily reading minutes, download fun activities, chat with the Wimpy Kid gang and read 5 books for a chance to win prizes. Also, if you have 3 A's on your report card, you get a free Personal Pizza and a small soda or milk. The offer is only good for elementary and middle school students. Dine-in only.

 

Sylvan's Book Adventure Reading Program
Book Adventure encourages children to read books and then take online quizzes to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for prizes like books, magazine subscriptions, tattoos, candy, CD's, and games. This summer reading program is ongoing, all year around.

 

Cold Stone Creamery

Kids can earn free ice cream for good grades. Students must earn a straight-A report card. Kindergarten students up to fifth graders can participate. Depends on location.

Melting Pot in Darien Straight A’s- Simply bring in your all "A's" report card, and get a dinner, including our famous chocolate fondue! *Each free child's meal must be accompanied by the purchase of an adult four-course dinner.

 

Also, all recent graduates are rewarded with the tasty gift of fondue. Simply bring your party of five or more guests and your graduate -from kindergarten through graduate school - and choose a complimentary four-course gourmet fondue meal.

 

 

Six Flags’ Read to Succeed Program begins in the fall and is open to teachers, schools, and homeschoolers. Kids who complete 6 hours of recreational reading are eligible for a free ticket to Six Flags. A great way to remind kids that all that reading pays off.

 

Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge 2015 

Scholastic has a summer reading challenge where kids read and then go online to record the minutes they've read this summer. They'll also be able to take weekly challenges to earn rewards. This summer reading programs runs May 5 - September 5.

 

TD Bank Summer Reading Program 2015

When your child completes the TD Bank summer reading program, they'll get $10 free! Kids will need to read 10 books and have a new or existing Young Savers account at a TD Bank to get this deal. This summer reading program runs June 1 - August 31. 

 

 

Updated for Kids Bowl Free 2015

Kids Bowl Free is a nation-wide program where kids get to bowl for free every day during the summer at their local bowling alley. Registering for Kids Bowl Free 2015: Visit online and click on your state to see a list of bowling alleys that are participating in Kids Bowl Free 2015.

 

Chuck E. Cheese Reading Rewards

Kids can earn free 10 tokens for reading each day for 2 weeks. This summer reading program goes on all year. 

Some Dunkin’ Donuts and Wendy’s also have programs in place, so be sure to check them out too.

 

Showcase Cinemas summer reading program called Bookworm Wednesdays. (formerly National Amusements) gives kids free movie tickets each week for each book they read and fill out a book report over. 

 

Public Library Summer Reading Programs

Every public library has a different summer reading program but almost all of them have rewards and prizes for kids as well as fun events.

 

 

Because programs can change, calling ahead to your specific destination is a good idea. Now get out there and celebrate all that hard work!
